After nearly two decades of waiting, Xbox owners will finally get to play a PlayStation 3 exclusive they never expected to get.

Re-releases can often be perceived as cheap cash-grabs from publishers, especially when they offer little to no changes or improvements over the OG version.

However, some can be of genuine service, whether it be giving a forgotten game a new lease on life, or in this case, one that was previously locked to one platform and one platform alone.

Following the success ofMetal Gear Solid: Master Collection, Konami is back with Metal Gear Solid – Master Collection Volume 2, which has less games packed in but far from less value.

The collection includes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear: Ghost Babel and the one we’re most excited for, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.

Previously released in 2008,Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots has been a PlayStation 3 exclusive since it launched.

No PC port, no port to rival consoles, or even re-releases on modern PlayStation platforms. It’s been stuck in our PlayStation 3s until this week.

What’s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots about?

Adding yet another entry to a long and convoluted timeline, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots brings back an aged Solid Snake for one final mission.

With callbacks to the first Metal Gear Solid game and appearances from other protagonists such as Raiden, it’s highly-regarded as another banger entry in the series, which is why it’s such a big deal to have it playable by so many more gamers.

Unfortunately, it’s followed by Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain, which was good, but ruined by Konami cutting ties with the series’ creator Hideo Kojima. It’s practically unfinished as a result.

It also features one of the longest cutscenes in any game, ever. Beating the game rewards you with a 70+ minute long film. What a way to end a game right?

As of August 27 Metal Gear Solid – Master Collection Volume 2 is yours for the taking, with a price of $49.99 on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch/Nintendo Switch 2.

It’s, of course, a must-play for any existing fans of the series, but it’s also ideal for those who fell in love with it for the first time after the first volume of remasters.

Again, there’s not as much content in the second volume, but most people will be buying this collection for Metal Gear Solid 4 alone, as who wouldn’t want to play that game with modernised graphics?

It took a long, long time, but Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is officially a multiplatform game as of August 2026, and it feels pretty good.
