It’s a good day to be a Swiftie!
On Sept. 22, Taylor Swift announced that she is releasing a new song titled “Patient Zero” at the end of the week.
“I’ve been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single ‘Patient Zero’ will be out on September 25 (!!!!!!!!!!!!)” the pop star wrote on her Instagram, alongside a new photo of herself.
The single is currently available to pre-order on Swift’s website for 24 hours.
The news comes after Swift has been leaving Easter eggs for fans the past two weeks, making Swifties question if the Grammy winner planned to announce new music.
Swifties first speculated that Swift was up to something when she appeared in a skit at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 14. During the sketch, which featured cast members from “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” Swift looked directly into the camera and said, “Saccharide. Aries. From the Vineyard. North or South.”
Swifties immediately started to dissect the meaning, wondering if it pointed toward Swift releasing “Taylor’s Versions” of her debut and “Reputation” albums. For the past week, they have been sharing theories on social media.
One X user posted a tweet that unscrambled the phrase to seemingly reveal a hidden message: “My first record’s re-record is out Nov. 10.”
Then, fans noticed that a letter posted on Swift’s website in May 2025 confirming she purchased her master recordings suddenly had three pages instead of two.
But theories linking the clues to her debut or “Reputation” albums started to lead to dead ends when zeroes began to appear in her song lyrics on Apple Music and Spotify.
The final piece of the puzzle? Swift updated her Instagram bio to read, “And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u” the same day a countdown appeared on her website.
All signs lead to “Patient Zero,” which will be Swift’s second release this year. In June, she announced the single “I Knew It, I Knew You,” from the “Toy Story 5” soundtrack.
Swift did not confirm if “Patient Zero” will be the lead single from her highly-anticipated 13th album.
Last year, she released “The Life of a Showgirl,” which included hits like “The Fate of Ophelia,” “Opalite” and “Elizabeth Taylor.”
Her 12th album broke a record with its first week sales, selling over 4 million units.
