Do you remember Ninth Circle? I don’t blame you if you don’t. Ninth Circle is a creator-owned horror imprint at Image Comics, launched in late 2024 to focus on standalone, comic book horror one-shots, planned to have roughly one new book per month. The comics are group-owned by the founders, who hold equity stakes, Garth Ennis, Marguerite Bennett, Joe Pruett, Ram V and Adam Glass as well as management folks Michael Bogner and David Stone, with investors Kimberly Steward and her K Period Media production company partner paying for it all.
The end of 2024 saw Freddie the Fix by Garth Ennis and Mike Perkins, with 2025 bringing Blood Train by Adam Glass, Andrew Dabb) and Bernard Chang, The Kids by Garth Ennis and Goran Parlov, Mommy Blogby Marguerite Bennett and Eleonora Carlini and Gray Lady by Adam Glass, Mike Benson and Ken Lashley
However, in 2026 so far, they didn’t publish any, even as collaboration between Marguerite Bennett and Jill Thompson, Joe Pruett with Butch Guice, were mentioned. Not even for Hallowe’en. Well, it seems that Garth Ennis and John McCrea won’t let 2026 be a Nioth Circle bust, after all those investors have to get their money back somehow, and they have a new Ninth Circle one-shot, The Snail to Image Comics in November 2026.
“When you are offered your heart’s desire, what (and who) are you willing to sacrifice to achieve it? And should you really be making that deal with a… talking snail?”
“It might be said that a talking snail is not the best taking advice from nowadays, perhaps it’s no worse than any of the other options? Find out in The Snail, by myself and the good Mr. McCrea,” said Ennis. “If I was a talking snail I’d definitely be telling you to buy it.”
McCrea added: “When Garth asks you to work on a horror title with him you have to be ready for some disturbing sh-t. I said yes and wasn’t ready. This is some disturbing sh-t.”
