Playing in a slice of history is no ordinary acting exercise, and Saiee M Manjrekar knows the weight that comes with it. The actor says portraying a character in The India House, Ram Charan’s big-budget Telugu period drama, has been a humbling experience.
“With a contemporary story, there’s a freedom to interpret a character, but when the story is based on fact or is set in a certain time, there’s a sense of responsibility. You are not just playing a role; you are representing a time, a culture, and people whose stories deserve to be told with honesty and respect,” she says.
The film, which went on floors in July 2024, reportedly faced delays following extensive pre-production and a major accident during the shoot in 2025. While filming is yet to wrap, rumours suggest the makers are eyeing a November release.
Set in London in 1905, The India House, written and directed by debutant filmmaker Ram Vamsi Krishna, follows revolutionary students from pre-Independence India and a love story unfolding amid political turmoil. “The awareness [that it’s a period story] affects how you prepare. I think audiences today are incredibly informed. They appreciate authenticity, and can immediately recognise when a film has been made with sincerity and care,” adds Manjrekar.
