The Elder Scrolls 6 launch window revealed as lay

It’s hard to fathom The Elder Scrolls VI ever releasing; it’s about as intangible as a video game can get, having refused to surface in the eight years since it was first announced

Unfortunately, that doesn’t look set to change any time soon with a new release window having been teased alongside a devastating update

    The Elder Scrolls VI,
    Bethesda

The Elder Scrolls VIremains years away from launch

Games industry journalist Jason Schreier has claimed in a live Q&A at Bloomberg that The Elder Scrolls VI is “two to three years away at least”

That could see the game target a 2028 or 2029 launch – and that’s at the very earliest

Schreier’s use of “at least” doesn’t do anything to ease the concerns of those who see The Elder Scrolls VIas a 2030 onwards title

He rather vaguely added that the game is “coming along well” and is “looking amazing”, so hopefully that means it won’t be a disappointment after the long wait

That being said, with how long Bethesda is taking, gamers are only going to settle for perfection

It’s a devastating blow then to hear that Bethesda, including The Elder Scrolls VI, has been impacted by Xbox’s mass lay-offs

The Elder Scrolls VI could feel the effects of Xbox’s reduced headcount

Originally, it was said that Bethesda’s “14 layers of management” were cut to improve efficiency at the studio

That’s been challenged by the Bethesda Game Studios Union who put the following statement out on social media

“Yesterday’s lay-offs at Bethesda Game Studios were not a cut of ‘14 layers of management’. We lost dozens of programmers, artists, designers and testers. Many of whom worked at BGS for decades,” it began

“If Bethesda fans are worried this will harm the quality of our future games, like TES VI, let Microsoft know.”

It doesn’t paint a picture of smooth sailing behind the scenes

Surprisingly, it doesn’t look like the union’s cry for help is proving to be a success with fans already having run out of patience

“Skyrim released on November 11, 2011. We are still waiting for the next instalment. Today is July 7, <a href="https://comicvibe.com/emmy-nominations-2026-everything-you-need-to-know/” title=”Emmy Nominations 2026: Everything You Need to Know”>2026,” said GenericMaleNurse918 on Reddit

“Yeah, they only have themselves to blame for this one. You actually do have to put out a product people want at some point,” added Strange_Library5833

“This says it all. This is exactly why gamers won’t be able to muster many feelings for the people who are sadly affected. If gamers felt they were losing something great, they would. But they aren’t losing anything because nothing has been given to them. So they won’t care,” noted Sanctine

Of course, our thoughts go out to all of those who have been impacted by Xbox’s latest reshuffle

This situation perfectly shows, though, just how dangerous lengthy development cycles can be

Take too long and you lose the patience of management and the patience of fans. That can be your funding, and consumers wiped out in one fell swoop

Bethesda is far from the only studio struggling with output. Just look at Naughty Dog over at PlayStation, which has only produced remakes and remasters this entire PS5 generation

With word being that Xbox has encouraged Bethesda to really focus on its key franchises going forward, like Elder Scrolls and Fallout, perhaps we’ll eventually reach a place where all parties are satisfied
