For more than two years, the Dragon Ball Super manga has been on an extended hiatus. After the death of Akira Toriyama,the rights to future Dragon Ball stories were up in the air. We’ve had a few hints at relations thawing between the various parties earlier this year with the upcoming Dragon Ball Super: Beerus anime, but over the past few weeks, we’ve finally gotten hints that the Dragon Ball Super manga may be coming back.
To be clear, nothing has been officially confirmed regarding the return of the Dragon Ball Super manga. This is just us picking up on the chatter from some of the parties involved in the manga. The first is Toyotaro, who was the illustrator of the Dragon Ball Super manga and worked closely with the late creator Akira Toriyama on the sequel series. In early August, he hinted on social media that he was drawing more Dragon Ball Super. Then,last week, the social media account for Shueisha’s V Jump magazine said that Toyotaro was “serializing” Dragon Ball Super, that is in the present tense, not the past tense.
That could be a slip of the tongue on the person running the V Jump account, but it is the biggest hint in more than two years that Dragon Ball Super may be returning in the future. With two new anime series in development,there is more activity in the Dragon Ball franchise than we’ve had since Akira Toriyama’s untimely death. The fact that both Toyotaro and Shueisha are talking about Dragon Ball Super so openly is a positive sign for fans.
