The new ‘Street Fighter’ movie is one of the most irreverent and highly anticipated film projects of 2026, and based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s a far cry from the ill-fated previous adaptations. Such is her commitment to staying true to Capcom’s popular fighting game series that Callina Liang, the actress who will play Chun-Li, has revealed her rigorous diet and training regimen to look as much like the Chinese fighter as possible—a character famous for her massive thighs and powerful kicks.

‘Street Fighter’ premieres on October 26 and is quite different from previous live-action adaptations of Capcom’s video games. For the first time, there seems to be an explicit intention to stay as true as possible to the original material: this not only means the inclusion of such iconic characters as Ken, Ryu, Guile, and Chun-Li, but also the presence of their special moves, such as the Hadouken and the Flash Kick.

This commitment to creating a show that stays true to Capcom’s video games has pushed many of its performers to their limits. Callina Liang, who plays Chun-Li, recently revealed to Empire magazine just how seriously she has taken her role. “I downloaded all the Street Fighter games onto my PS5 and recorded Chun-Li’s moves with my phone so I could study them in slow motion,” Liang said. But it didn’t stop there: clearly, it wasn’t enough to just study the character’s most iconic attacks; she also had to train to develop the necessary skill to perform the most realistic ones with relative ease.

“Chun-Li is all kicks. So we did a bunch of Taekwondo training, Muay Thai, and wushu. I did two hours of that a day and strengthened my legs a lot and changed my diet drastically. When I was bulking, I ate 12 eggs a day. Every two hours I had to have a meal and I was on the verge of throwing up. But it worked. By the end of the shoot my thighs had grown six-and-a-half centimeters each”, the actress admitted.

Kitao Sakurai (’Bad Trip’) is directing this live-action adaptation, which will hit theaters courtesy of Legendary Pictures and Paramount.
