Fortnite is offline as Epic Games rolls out Chapter 7, Season 4, titled “Override,” and the new season is shaping up to be one of the game’s biggest crossover events yet.

The multiplayer game went offline this morning to allow developers Epic Games to roll out a major new update, numbered version 42.

Fortnite’s regular update schedule is something players should be well accustomed to by now, and the servers are unavailable once again on August 20 for a major update.

Fortnite went offline early Thursday as Epic Games began scheduled maintenance for the v42.00 update, which launches Chapter 7 Season 4: Override. Servers were expected to return around 7 a.m. ET, although the timing could change as maintenance continued.

Here’s a weird one: while we’re used to seeing servers for online platforms like the PlayStation Network or Xbox Live take a hit and prevent people from gaming online, today’s outage is a different animal for Xbox gamers.

Fortnite players should be familiar with regular downtime by now, with Epic Games settled into a bi-weekly schedule, and servers are unavailable on July 30 as the latest update is deployed.
