Cyberpunk 2077 now runs in a web browser through cyberpunk2077.lol, an unofficial fan port from developer omonkey (@omonkeyzz on X) that went live on 22 October. It doesn’t check whether you own the game, and it doesn’t ask for any of the game’s files.

The digital gaming industry has traditionally relied on downloadable applications, dedicated gaming consoles, and powerful computers. However, advances in web technologies have created another approach to interactive entertainment: games that run directly inside modern browsers.

The Sony PlayStation Portable, better known as the PSP, is now over two decades old. In its day it was an impressive handheld gaming machine, not least because of the inclusion of wireless networking and a web browser.

Grand Theft Auto 5 was made playable in a browser before it was pulled offline, amid an explosion of AI-fueled games across the internet.

Roblox offline play is coming alongside browser play and prompt-based game creation as the platform expands beyond the app that has contained its games for 20 years. Players will be able to launch a game from its Experience Details Page in Chrome by the end of 2026, without installing the Roblox app.

Roblox plans browser-based gaming by 2026, offline play in 2027 and broader support for 2D, puzzle and multiplayer games.
