Acclaimed horror author Stephen King has shared his two cents on President Donald Trump donating his salary to charity
In a new interview with Dinesh D’Souza, the president boasted about donating his $400,000 salary, something he claims no president has ever done before. Shortly after making this bold claim, King took to X posting, “Big whoop.” He added, “Other presidents have done it, and he’s made a couple of billion on crypto.”
King was left unimpressed by the donation as it pales in comparison to Trump’s total net worth, which is estimated to be around $6.5 billion. This comes as the King of Horror recently confessed there was one aspect of Trump that truly frightened him about the future

In the original clip, Trump said, “No other president they say, with a possible exception of George Washington, but they haven’t been able to find those records, and we’ve had wealthy presidents before, but no other president has contributed their salary.”
He continued, “And they told me before this that you will probably be asking me whether or not I’m going to contribute my salary again – but you haven’t asked that.”

To this, D’Souza asked, “Are you going to?” And Trump confirmed, “Yes.”
After King shared his reaction to the conversation, many other critics piled in, sharing their reactions to Trump’s boast. One person wrote, “@realDonaldTrump doesn’t need his salary when he steals from the pockets of hard working Americans everyday.”
Another critic added, “Considering how much he cost the tax payers, $400,000 is a drop in the bucket.”
While a third person wrote, “Why are seemingly intelligent people blind to this guy’s corruption and incompetence? It’s utterly mind blowing…”
And someone else chimed in, “Trump’s wealth increased more in 2025 than in any other year in history. So much for the US president not enriching himself and his family right???”

In recorded history, there have been three U.S. presidents who have donated or refused their presidential salaries, including John F. Kennedy, Herbert Hoover, and Trump
Herbert Hoover, the 31st President of the United States, donated his $75,000 salary to various charities throughout his term. He also supplemented the pay of staff members working under him who he believed were paid less than they deserved
John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States, donated his $100,000 annual presidential salary to various charities, including the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and the United Negro College Fund. The politician also did this during his 14 years serving in Congress
During Trump’s first term in office, he donated his quarterly paychecks to various federal agencies, including the Departments of Agriculture, Veterans Affairs, and Homeland Security
While King aired out his criticism of Trump, he has put his money where his mouth is, as he has donated a significant amount of money throughout his thriving career as an author. Over the years, Stephen has donated millions to various non-profits and community building programs, including public library projects, literacy programs, building repairs across Maine, local emergency services, and more
