Valve is yet to reveal the exact release date or price for the Steam Frame. Fans had expected the company to announce something during its 30th anniversary celebrations, but that did not happen. However, it seems the wait for Valve’s VR headset could be coming to an end soon, as the company has made some important changes.

Just yesterday, Valve updated two Steam Frame packages after they had remained unchanged for several months. Now, another interesting change has been spotted in the backend.

As spotted by Valve dataminer Brad Lynch, Valve has now added a reservation system for the two Steam Frame SKUs that were updated yesterday. These SKUs appear to represent the different versions of the VR headset that customers will be able to purchase. In other words, they could be for the 256GB and 1TB storage models.

The Steam Controller and Steam Machine both had reservation systems around their launches, allowing Valve to better control how the products were sold. With this system, interested customers can sign up for a reservation or waitlist, and those who receive an invitation can then purchase the hardware. This approach also helps Valve deal with scalpers and resellers, who often buy large quantities of popular hardware and later sell them for much higher prices through third-party marketplaces.

That said, while Valve has not officially announced a release date yet, the Steam Frame is currently expected to start shipping on September 14. If that date is accurate, the company will likely make an official announcement very soon.
