Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has officially unveiled the name and identity of its new Tamil general entertainment channel, Sony VIZHA, on Independence Day 2026.

A children’s performance of Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu revealed the name and logo on August 15. In Tamil Nadu, the invocation is sung at the start of significant events all around the state.

The promise of SONY VIZHA—stories that start in the soil of Tamil Nadu, carry the warmth, memories, aspirations, and cultural confidence of its people, and are imagined with the production value and emotional depth to travel to audiences everywhere—was inspired by its image of Tamil pride spreading like fragrance in every direction.

With Sony VIZHA, SPNI enters the Tamil entertainment market with a distinctive creative proposition: high-calibre content that is firmly anchored in Tamil culture, emotion, language, and daily realities, all while being produced with the ambition, skill, and scale to resonate well beyond its local market.

Sony Tamil Channel Sony VIZHA is scheduled to debut in October 2026.

The channel will blend original fiction, global reality formats, films, and tentpole entertainment across television and digital platforms in an effort to feel both personal to Tamil families and expansive in its overall aim.

In Tamil, Vizha denotes festival or celebration. The channel’s name captures its essence, which is a celebration of Tamil stories, talent, music, family, aspirations, and popular entertainment that emotionally engages viewers.

The logo features electric blue and yellow colours. Electric blue offers the identity a new, modern, and high-end character, signifying a brand that is emotionally connected, culturally anchored, and globally fluent. Yellow is derived from hues associated with celebration in Tamil Nadu, such as turmeric and marigold.

Talking about the new beginning, Rajaraman Sundaram, Chief Content Officer – South Regional, Sony Pictures Networks India, shared, “With Sony VIZHA, we are taking a heartfelt step into Tamil entertainment. This is a market with a rich creative legacy, a deeply expressive language and audiences who have always embraced stories with emotion, honesty and cultural pride. We come into this space with humility, respect and a sincere desire to add something meaningful.”

He added, “Our hope is to build premium stories that feel close to home while reflecting the confidence and curiosity of a new generation of Tamil viewers – sharper, faster, funnier, and unafraid to look beyond the four walls of the home. At the same time, we want to bring these stories to life with the scale, craft and ambition that can help them travel further. Tamizh Thai Vaazhthu beautifully speaks of Tamil’s pride spreading in every direction. That sentiment inspires Sony VIZHA – a celebration of Tamil culture, deeply rooted in emotion and imagined for a wider world. We reveal the name and logo today with gratitude and look forward to bringing the channel to audiences in October.”

Some of the most well-known entertainment brands in India, such as Kaun Banega Crorepati, Indian Idol, CID, and Crime Patrol, are based at SPNI. While developing a unique Tamil voice of its own—local in spirit, emotionally relevant in storytelling, superior in execution, and broad in appeal—Sony VIZHA will carry on the tradition of establishing enduringly successful brands.

More information about the launch and the schedule of events will be revealed soon.
