Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has launched Sony Vizha, a Tamil general entertainment channel in Malaysia, through pay-TV operator Astro. The channel is available on Astro channel 220 and its streaming platform, Astro Go.

The launch marks SPNI’s first linear channel debut on Astro as the broadcaster expands its Tamil entertainment offering in Southeast Asia.

Sony Vizha’s programming includes Tamil adaptations of international formats such as Tamil Idol, associated with A.R. Rahman, and Celebrity MasterChef Tamil, featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu as a celebrity judge. Its fiction line-up includes Notebook 90’s – Kadhal Flashback, Crime Patrol – Kutrangal Tharum Echarikkai and Madam Police – Naanga Irukka Bayamen, alongside Tamil films.

The channel will carry English subtitles to reach a wider audience beyond Tamil-speaking households. Its content slate spans reality formats, fiction and films, with a focus on contemporary Tamil entertainment.

The launch expands SPNI’s distribution on Astro and adds to its international channel portfolio.

Rajesh Kaul, chief revenue officer and business head – sports and international, Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), said, “The launch of Sony Vizha on Astro in Malaysia marks a strategic step in expanding our international presence and strengthening our engagement with Tamil-speaking audiences beyond India. With a compelling mix of global IPs, renowned talent and culturally relevant storytelling, Sony Vizha reflects our commitment to delivering differentiated content that connects with audiences across markets. Our partnership with Astro further advances this ambition, enabling us to extend our Tamil entertainment offerings to more viewers in the region.”

Prem Anand Rajahram, vice president – Indian customer business, Astro, added, “We are pleased to mark the beginning of a strategic partnership with Sony Pictures Networks India through the launch of Sony Vizha in Malaysia. As the channel’s first international partner, Astro is proud to bring Sony Vizha to Malaysian audiences alongside its debut in India, reflecting our shared ambition to deliver the very best in Indian entertainment. With a compelling mix of reality entertainment, movies, original dramas, and culturally relevant storytelling, Sony Vizha further strengthens our premium Indian content proposition. We look forward to building on this partnership with SPNI as we continue to elevate the entertainment experience for our customers and reinforce Astro’s position as the home of Indian entertainment in Malaysia.”
