In the last episode of season 1, Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser) discovered that 10-Petal Ranch’s Mexico branch has been smuggling drugs using the ranch’s cattle. Their discovery leads to their adopted son, Carter (Finn Little), being kidnapped by Mariano’s (Raoul Max Trujillo) henchmen
Season 1’s finale left audiences on edge about nearly every character’s fate, but viewers can rejoice: Paramount announced in late June that it renewed the series for season 2.
More from Taylor Sheridan in Dutton Ranchseason 2?
Sheridan is an executive producer for Dutton Ranch, but he didn’t write for the characters in season 1. Season 2 could see more from him, Reilly said in a joint interview with Hauser in The Hollywood Reporter
“It was an honor to work for Taylor, and it was an honor to have him lead us,” Reilly said of her time on Yellowstone, adding: “We talk to him now about what the next season could be, and he wants to be involved.”

Reilly also told The Hollywood Reporter that the break from Yellowstoneto Dutton Ranch felt like a natural transition for Beth’s character. Dutton Ranch picked up from Yellowstone’s violent ending with Beth and Rip moving to South Texas
“It presented itself as the right moment for Beth to go into a different gear shift, and I enjoyed exploring that psychologically,” Reilly said. “I enjoyed playing a different color of her.”
