Prince Harry, Elton John, and other claimants must pay millions in legal costs after losing a privacy lawsuit against the Daily Mail. A judge criticized their case as speculative, ordering significant payments. The ruling is particularly impactful as Harry plans to return to the UK with his family.

In a legal setback for Prince Harry and other high-profile figures, a judge has ruled against their privacy lawsuit, resulting in an order to pay substantial legal costs to Associated Newspapers, the publisher of the Daily Mail.

Judge Matthew Nicklin criticized the conduct of the case, labeling it as “unreasonable” due to its reliance on what he described as speculative and unsupported allegations. Consequently, he ordered an interim payment of £9.54 million to cover Associated’s expenses, with further costs to be assessed in separate proceedings if not settled.

The decision delivers a notable defeat to Prince Harry, who has previously expressed disdain for media practices he blames for his mother’s untimely death. Despite past legal victories, this ruling deals a significant blow as he prepares to relocate back to the UK with his family.
