Robert Pattinson Officially Opens Up on Steven Soderbergh Taking Up The Batman 2

Robert Pattinson will be returning as the Caped Crusader in The Batman 2 (The Batman: Part II), which is reportedly in its final stages of filming. The first film was released back in 2022 and was a blockbuster. It kickstarted Matt Reeves’ BatVerse, which was then continued by The Penguin and will now be expanded again in The Batman 2. However, the road to the sequel has been quite long, and the obstacles seem to be still not over.

Earlier this month, production on The Batman 2 was announced to be paused due to Matt Reeves having to attend a family matter. While the exact reason for the pause was not revealed, fans were worried that it might result in further delay of the project, which is already set for release in February 2028. However, filmmaker Steven Soderbergh came in to save the day. The Ocean’s 11 director was announced to be stepping in for Reeves for the remainder of principal photography.

Both Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson appreciated Soderbergh for stepping in to see the shoot to completion. Reeves mentioned that he would still be involved in the movie and would join soon after his personal affairs are sorted. Soderbergh also mentioned that he was there to help Reeves bring out his vision. Pattinson opened up about Soderbergh’s involvement in a recent interview with GamesRadar+,

I am so happy he’s come on to help Matt. It’s incredibly generous of him – and he’s doing it in the loveliest way. It’s completely selfless.

Pattinson appreciated the Traffic filmmaker for stepping in and helping Reeves bring the film to the edit table. While there is no update on whether the movie will make its February 2028 release date, things seem to be back on track now.

Robert Pattinson’s casting as Batman did not come without its naysayers. The Twilight alumnus received a lot of flak when Matt Reeves chose him as the lead of his Batman movie. However, 2022’s The Batman proved most people wrong. The actor proved that he could still hold a blockbuster franchise together on his own. Now, The Batman 2is one of the most-anticipated projects, and fans have been waiting with bated breath to see the sequel.

The Batman 2 has undergone several delays, with the script itself taking ages to be locked. Filming finally began earlier this year, after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes delayed production quite a bit. However, the journey hit another snag when Matt Reeves had to pause filming to attend to a family emergency. Fans were worried about a Zack Snyder and Justice League situation happening again. However, Steven Soderbergh’s involvement seems to alle

Pattinson appreciated the filmmaker for being the savior at a critical juncture and mentioned that he would be joining the set soon. He revealed that production on The Batman 2 had already resumed and Soderbergh had already taken over.

I think Matt had put so much work into the script, and we’re almost done. So for someone to come in and say, ‘I just want to help Matt do it; I want to do it in conjunction with him and just get it to the edit.’ And to have someone who’s as talented as Steven doing it is great. I think they’re in production already. And I’m starting in a couple of days.

The Batman 2 finally seems to be back on track, with filming resuming after a brief pause. The sequel has a stacked cast, with Pattinson, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, and Jeffrey Wright returning, while Sebastian Stan and Scarlett Johansson are new additions. Erik Messerschmidt replaced Greig Fraser as the director of photography. The film is set to release on February 18, 2028.
