The Real Housewives of New Jersey alum Kim DePaola just shared a video of her dancing to the song “What’s Going On?” that has many fans asking just that.
The footage, posted to her Instagram account on Tuesday, September 29, featured the former reality TV personality dancing to the Marvin Gaye classic while dressed in all black, as headlines about the recent deaths or troubles of celebrity kids flash across the screen.
“What’s going on?😩 Sometimes you don’t dance because you’re celebrating… you dance because you’re processing. 🕊️” DePaola, 65, captioned the post. “There’s been a LOT going on. So much loss, so much chaos, family drama, heartbreak, mental health struggles, and things happening in the world that leave you asking one simple question…What’s going on?”
Included in the video were the deaths of Real Housewives of Salt Lake star Mary Cosby‘s son Robert Jr., Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber‘s son Presley Gerber, and Heroes star Hayden Panettiere. Also highlighted was footage of Teresa Giudice‘s daughter Milania’s recent incident at a Tampa airport, and articles about the arrest of Kim Zolciak‘s son Kroy Biermann Jr.
AsIn Touch previously reported, Milania entered treatment amid a mental health crisis, while Kroy is facing felony assault charges.
“This one hits a little differently. 🎶🖤,” she concluded, before adding the hashtags, #kimd#whatsgoingon#tmz#bravoand #findaway.
While DePaola turned off the comments on the post, the video has gone viral on Real Housewives fan accounts.
“This is a weird video,” wrote the Mr. Housewives account, sharing the footage. “I’m trying to understand the point she wanted to make, but dancing in front of headlines about people’s deaths feels insensitive. These are painful stories involving real people and families. I don’t think Kim thought this through before posting.”
The account added, “If I were her, I’d take the video down.”
Reality TV commentator Gibson Johns commented on the Mr. Housewives post, writing, “wtf,” while Real Housewives “savant” and Vicki Gunvalson podcast cohost Christian Snow added, “DOES SHE WORK???”
Other fans in the comments section called it “so bizarre,” “weirdo behavior,” “so distasteful,” and “a little insensitive.” Another viewer added, “tone deaf at its best,” while a different comment read, “Dancing to kids that lost their life is vile and evil.”
“Teresa do what you gotta do, friend. We won’t say nothing,” wrote one of Giudice’s fans, while a different commenter said of Cosby, “I hope Mary eats her up.”
About an hour after she shared the video, DePaola did return to Instagram and addressed some of the backlash aimed at her recently.
“I just want to tell everyone, I have every right to express myself the way I choose, okay?” she said in the Instagram Story. “I will continue to block and delete negative comments about myself or the people that I have on my podcast. I have the right to say what I feel and think what I feel. And usually, I’m right.”
