Quest headsets now feature the official Disney+ app with support for download and Dolby Atmos immersive audio.
It was already possible to watch Disney+ via the website in the Horizon OS web browser, but this is limited to 720p.
Using the official app, Disney+ can stream in up to 4K resolution with Dolby Vision HDR for all subscribers of the service, Mehta said. The Quest 3 only has a regular 2K LCD panel, so the direct benefits of 4K and HDR over 1080p SDR are small, but the increased bitrate that comes with higher resolution versions should be very noticeable on the huge virtual screen in terms of fewer compression artifacts.
Disney+ Premium tier subscribers also get Dolby Atmos immersive audio on supported titles. This is a feature added to Horizon OS in v71 last year, which also includes the ability to download content for offline viewing. So, for example, you can now take your Quest on a plane and watch the Disney+ movies you prepared.

However, what the visionOS version of the Quest Disney+ app doesn’t support is 3D. Headsets are the ideal way to watch 3D movies and solve the problems of traditional 3D glasses in movie theaters, but the Quest app is limited to 2D only. There are also no custom 3D environments in the visionOS Disney+ app, such as “Alien: Earth Containment Room.”
Disney+ is available for free on the Meta Horizon Store, but of course requires a Disney+ subscription. Meta claims that the app is currently only available in the US, but it was also possible to download and use it in the UK, despite not using any VPNs or proxies.
New Amazon Prime Video Quest app now supports downloads
Amazon has released an all-new Prime Video Quest app that supports downloading for offline viewing.
The only other major streaming platform that has an app in Quest’s store that supports downloading is Amazon Prime Video, which arrived on Meta’s platform at the same time as the launch of the Quest 3S.
Netflix, on the other hand, is available at up to 1080p in web browsers, as Meta worked with the platform last year to implement full DRM support.
