Takara Tomy currently offers the Transformers Masterpiece Beast Wars Rattrap figure. This figure was inspired by the Transformers Beast Wars series that aired from 1996 to 1999 and followed the Transformers Beast Machines that no one wants to remember because that show was so poorly recognized. However, Beast Wars remains one of the most memorable in the brand’s history. The series is well-known among fans, and Rattrap joins an already impressive lineup of characters that appeared in the first season. While most Masterpiece figures cost hundreds of dollars depending on size, Rattrap is small enough to cost just $119.99 and is currently in stock at BigBadToyStore.

Launch: November 2025
The Rattrap comes in a standard Masterpiece black and white mailer box with the item number and logo printed all over. Inside that box is another box with artwork and images inspired by the classic ’90s Kenner toy line, with the Dinobot’s eyes in the back in both modes. This also includes logos such as Maximal, his image on the side, details of all accessories on the back, and other images and details. Includes a collector card and the instructions shown in the video above.
Rattrap comes in a plastic tray with some accessories, including a head sculpt for beast mode, a face plate for robot mode, and a clip that allows him to rest his hand on the back of Optimus Primal and the flight stand shown in the instructions for robot mode. The blaster and both bombs are inside Rattap in beast mode.

In beast mode, Rattrap is a rat and has been given a sculpted texture to show its fur. The body is mostly gray with a brown wash, pink paws and black claws, and a pink tail, and the head sculpt includes carved ears, eyes, nose, and whiskers on the sides. A second head sculpt is included and the beard is not sculpted to the sides of the face and is authentic. The mouth is hinged, so when opened you can see the teeth and tongue.

He can also stand on his two hind legs (the head deformation fails here and should have been pushed back more). You can bring your arms close together and touch each other.
A breakdown of his articulation is shown in the video.

A clip is included so you can attach it to the back of your Optimus Primal as shown. When Rat Trap gives Optimus extra weight, it makes his back heavier and requires Optimus to put his tail on the ground so he can stand.

In robot mode, he looks a lot like how he appeared in the classic 90’s TV series, with TV-matching colors such as gray, copper, silver, and red eyes and mouth. It’s also back heavy in this mode, so you need to put your tail on the ground so you can stand.
A breakdown of his articulation is shown in the video above.

Rattrap includes 3 interchangeable faceplates: neutral, surprised, and smiling.

In beast mode, the blaster is hidden inside the body, and in robot mode, it can be held with one or both hands. The blaster has the Maximal logo on both sides and a small insect on the top.

By replacing the facial parts, you can also recreate the pose holding the blaster.

Rattrap also includes two bombs hidden in his forearms that can be removed and placed in his hands.

Comparison to previous Rattap figures, including Vintage Figures (Resale Releases), 2014 Legends, and WFC Kingdom. This is the most show accurate Rattrap figure released, and a very nice likeness and sculpt is long overdue.

Overall, Rattrap is a great figure and fits perfectly into the Masterpiece Beast Wars collection. It took Takara Tomy years to complete the original Axalon crew, but Lalap is the final crew member you’ll need for your collection. There’s still a way to go before Season 1’s characters are finalized, and the Maximals outnumber the Decepticons, so we hope Scorponok, Waspinator, Terrorsaurus, Taranturus, Blackarachnia, Quickstrike, and the rest of Season 1’s Maximals Airlaser and Silverbolt aren’t far away.
