PlayStation Portal OLED edges closer as Sony certifies new hardware

    What you need to know

Sony certified two devices in the CFI-Y2000 series, potentially signaling new PlayStation Portal hardware. The listings don’t confirm an OLED screen, and the CFI-Y2000 supports Wi-Fi 5, like the current Portal. Sony has not announced a new model.

Rumors of an OLED PlayStation Portal have been circulating since the start of the year, and now more fuel has been thrown on the rumor fire with Sony Interactive Entertainment certifying two new pieces of hardware with the Wi-Fi Alliance that carry model numbers pointing directly at the Portal family.

The news comes from Sony-focused leaker Zuby_Tech, who spotted Wi-Fi Alliance listings for two devices with model numbers CFI-Y2000 and CFI-Y2105, both certified on September 21, 2026. The listings only describe the products as a “Computer Entertainment System” under the Gaming Console/Peripherals category, but the model numbers are the important detail here.

For those who don’t know, the current PlayStation Portal carries CFI-Y1000 series model numbers, such as the CFI-Y1016, and Sony made the same jump from the 1000 series to the 2000 series when it moved from the original PS5 to the PS5 Slim. Notably, no CFI-Y1000 series device appears in the Wi-Fi Alliance database, making this the first Portal-family hardware Sony has put through the organization’s certification.

However, the certificate doesn’t mention a display, so there is no confirmation these devices have an OLED panel. That link comes from earlier leaks, with insider Kepler_L2 claiming on NeoGAF in January that PlayStation was working on an “OLED version” of the Portal this year, and Zuby_Tech floating a similar claim weeks before that.

As for networking, the CFI-Y2000 certificate lists dual-band 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi up to Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac), the same standard the current Portal uses, with no mention of Wi-Fi 6 or 6GHz support. That may disappoint anyone hoping for a connectivity upgrade to go with a new screen.

How would an OLED screen affect PlayStation Portal image quality and battery life compared with the current model?

An OLED PlayStation Portal has not been confirmed. The new hardware certification does not specify a display, and there are no image-quality or battery-life results for an OLED model to compare with the current Portal.

What other hardware changes have leaks reported for the rumored OLED PlayStation Portal?

No other hardware changes are reported for the rumored OLED PlayStation Portal. The new device’s certification lists the same Wi-Fi 5 standard as the current Portal, with no mention of Wi-Fi 6 or 6GHz support, and it does not confirm an OLED display.

Can PlayStation Portal stream games through the cloud without a PS5, and what requirements apply?

Yes. “Cloud streaming comes to PS Portal, but only for PS Plus Premium subscribers” reports that Portal can stream games directly from the cloud rather than relying exclusively on Remote Play, so a PS5 is not required for cloud streaming. A PlayStation Plus Premium subscription is required; no other requirements are specified.

What practical difference could Wi-Fi 6 make for PlayStation Portal streaming compared with the Wi-Fi 5 listed for CFI-Y2000?

The CFI-Y2000 listing shows Wi-Fi 5, the same standard as the current PlayStation Portal, with no mention of Wi-Fi 6. It does not establish what practical difference Wi-Fi 6 would make to Portal streaming.

Certifications like this generally surface ahead of a product’s launch, which would line up with claims of a 2026 release. However, Sony has yet to announce or confirm a new Portal model, and until it does, take all this information with a healthy amount of skepticism.
