A new and exclusive PlayStation game inspired by Nintendo‘s Animal Crossing is reportedly in the works. Insiders close to the untitled work also unveiled a potential release date.

According to MP1st, Media Molecule is developing a new game in the social-simulation genre, inspired by Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon. Moreover, it was reported that the game is slated for a 2027 launch. However, the launch slot could change, as the game is still under development.

Media Molecule, known for games like LittleBigPlanet and Dreams, will not release the game as a service (GaaS), according to the report. Nevertheless, with more details added to the Animal Crossing-like game in the future, this could change.

What Media Molecule’s PS5 game could borrow from Animal Crossing’s cozy formula

With the limited details provided, not much is known about the premise of Media Molecule‘s in-development game. However, inspired by the themes of Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon, we can speculate about the PS5 game.

Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon share a cozy vibe, offering gamers gameplay that requires low-stress tasks. Both games require foraging for or collecting reife, where gamers interact with local villagers and build friendships, are integral parts of both games

At the center of the gameplay, gamers must upgrade their living spaces by making money in both games. For instance, in Animal Crossing, players must earn bells, while in Harvest Moon, gamers must collect gold to upgrade their spaces. These can be earned by completing daily tasks and small goals.

Overall, both games require players to follow a routine that consists of waking up, completing tasks, interacting with locals, earning money, and upgrading their spaces and town to progress. All of these elements could form the core formula for Media Molecule’s upcoming PlayStation-exclusive game.

That said, these are only conjectures based on the common aspects of the two games that inspired them. The game developers could make creative changes during game development. So this should be taken with a grain of salt, as it has not yet been confirmed by Media Molecule.
