The impressive PlayStation 5 Linux project is continuing on, and recent updates to it have again expanded what it can support. Even though one of the main people behind it quit, others seem to have taking it upon themselves to continue it on.
Looking over some of the latest additions to the project they’ve expanded it to support all these versions:
- 3.00, 3.10, 3.20, 3.21 without M.2 support.
- 4.00, 4.02, 4.03, 4.50, 4.51 with M.2 support.
- 5.00, 5.02, 5.10, 5.50 with M.2 support.
- 6.00, 6.02, 6.50 with M.2 support.
- 7.00, 7.01, 7.20, 7.40, 7.60, 7.61 with M.2 support.
- 11.60 (regular PS5 only, M.2 not tested yet; the kernel needs KASLR, so do not pass
nokaslr,mem=ormemmap=).- 13.00, 13.20, 13.60 with M.2 support.
- 13.60 with M.2 support.
To be clear, it seems some AI may have been used on this, Claude is noted in the contributors list now.
With multiple people now working on it, hopefully the future is a bit brighter for the project. One day Sony will move on from the PS5 and stop supporting it, people shouldn’t be left with a paperweight. As I’ve said before – you should be able to do whatever you want with the software on hardware you’ve purchase outright, otherwise it’s glorified long-term renting isn’t it.
