PlayStation 4 games are apparently now fully playable on PC
The mod seemingly emulates the entire PS4 interface, complete with games which boot and are playable right from your PC.
In addition to PS4, other mods have cropped up which show other full PC games running entirely on Roblox.
As shared by KreekCraft on X (formerly Twitter), the streamer demonstrated the PlayStation 4 home screen booting up inside Roblox.
The video posted shows the streamer booting up a Roblox game called PlayStation 4 Experience, which loads to the PS4 home screen.
They then launch Undertale, which seemingly boots into gameplay. They also tested it with Five Nights at Freddy’s, which is also functional.
Other users have shared clips of The Simpsons: Hit & Run also running on Roblox. However, in all three cases, the games still seem a little buggy, and aren’t performing as perfectly as they would if they were running on native hardware.
Since this would count as piracy, we wouldn’t recommend doing this for yourself. And just because a handful of games launch doesn’t mean your entire PS4 library of games like Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn will also play perfectly. There’s a reason KreekCraft didn’t try launching anything more powerful than Undertale on their PC.
There’s also the issue that downloading something not verified as safe is also risky, as it could include additional software that potentially breaks your computer.
AI is dramatically changing gaming, and we’re not sure if we like it
Claude, developed by AI software company Anthropic, is being utilised by the video game community to do things that were previously unheard of.
Programmers, both hobbyist and professional alike, have used the large language model (LLM) to assist with the development of mods, recompiled retro games, and other pieces of software used in gaming.
Although the software may have some legitimate use, it has also led to a large wave of “vibecoded” projects which many users have dismissed as “AI slop” due to the fact that they’re often very buggy, broken, and unoptimised.
For novice programmers, many of these bugs go unnoticed and unfixed due to the LLM creating jumbled code that is unreadable for people who don’t know what they’re looking at.
The reason so many of these projects seem to be cropping up is due to the LLM market still being highly unregulated. Many LLM models allow users to generate images, videos, and games of trademarked IPs, with any attempt by the rights holder to take them down just resulting in more projects appearing in their place.
For the most part, if you’re downloading a piece of software that has been developed with Claude, it’s best to verify with other users whether it’s safe to run on your PC.
It also raises a pretty big question: who is this is actually for? Games like Undertale and Five Nights at Freddy’s are already playable on PC, and The Simpsons: Hit & Run can also be played quite easily as an abandonware title if you know where to look. They constantly go on sale for a few dollars every few months. There isn’t really much benefit to running them through a different layer of emulation, and this could be said for a lot of AI-coded projects that do similar things.
