Hello Minecrafters! It’s me, your town crier, and I’m here to trumpet the news that Minecraft is now out on Nintendo Switch™ 2! Wahoo!

Hey, wait. Where is everyone?

Oh? They’re already out and about, coolly playing Minecraft on their suitably-blocky Nintendo Switch™ 2 systems? I suppose that is what I’ve been hollering about this whole time… but I dressed up for this announcement and everything! I had a whole thing planned!

Well, for the rest of you here (so polite!), let’s make it special. So, without further ado:

Minecraft is now available on Nintendo Switch™ 2!

And if you’ve had a chance to spy on someone playing, you’ll know the game looks especially lush on the console. That’s because Minecraft for Nintendo Switch™ 2 includes our visual upgrade, Vibrant Visuals* – meaning improved visual elements such as directional lighting, volumetric fog, dynamic shadows, and more. Players can enjoy all the Vibrant Visuals* supported content on the Minecraft Marketplace, too!

Also included in the Nintendo Switch™ 2 edition is the Nintendo exclusive Super Mario™ Mash-Up Pack – now updated to make the most of those Vibrant Visuals*! Explore iconic locations from the world of Mario and enjoy the included 15 tracks and 40 player skins inspired by the iconic Super Mario series. Head to the Marketplace to claim your DLC and start a new world! Smashing!

Choose from three digital versions: the Standard Edition, the Deluxe Collection, or the Ultimate Collection. All versions include the Super Mario™ Mash-Up Pack, but the Deluxe and Ultimate Collections include additional delightful content – such as beloved add-ons and Minecoins** –

(I see we’ve just lost some more people to the power of marketing. Oh well. We shall persist!)

As I was saying – get the digital Minecraft Standard Edition, Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection for Nintendo Switch™ 2 – or the physical Minecraft Standard Edition for Nintendo Switch™ 2 at retail! (But not yet! Stick around for the finale!)

Digital upgrade path

Happy news for those of you who already own a version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch™! Upgrade paths are available between October 27, 2026, at 9AM PT and January 31, 2027, at 9AM PT.  If you have a digital copy, you can upgrade to the digital Minecraft Standard Edition for Nintendo Switch™ 2 for free in most regions *** or the Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection at a discount (offer available through Nintendo eShop only).

For all players (including owners of a physical version), when you launch Minecraft for Nintendo Switch on your Nintendo Switch 2 during the offer period, you’ll receive an in-game message inviting you to upgrade to digital Minecraft Ultimate Collection for Nintendo Switch 2 at a discount (through the link in that message).

Carry over your Nintendo Switch™ worlds*, pick up right where you left off, and play anywhere!

That’s it – that’s the announcement.

(Now, imagine gorgeous fireworks and blazing circus hoops. Imagine me dressed up in a dazzling ballgown, deftly waltzing with a Creeper. Imagine a beautiful soundtrack, possibly featuring saxophones. It’s the most glorious thing you’ve witnessed in a long time. Aren’t you glad you stayed for the end of the announcement?)
