Virtual reality headset maker Pimax has announced a new console-like compact gaming PC with powerful internal hardware. Looking like a mashup of an Xbox Series X and a Steam Machine, the Pimax Spation will come with an AMD Ryzen 9800X3D and RX 9070 XT, as well as 32GB of DDR5 and a boatload of impressive connectivity.
When Valve launched its $1,049 Steam Machine with mere mobile RX 7600 performance and 16GB of DDR5 in a single stick, there were at least a few groans of disappointment. A high-end gaming machine this was not. But it kept the price down (somewhat) in the madness of 2026, at least.
That’s not the tactic Pimax is taking, and though the Spation won’t be as expensive as an RTX 5090 gaming PC, it still packs the kind of high-end gear that will probably send it north of $2,000.

Alongside the top CPU and GPU from AMD’s hardware lineup, this system will also sport 1TB of NVMe storage (likely with larger options, too), and the option of an RTX 5070 Ti if you want to spend more. Those cards are $300+ more expensive than a 9070 XT at the time of writing.
For connectivity, the Spation offers 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi 7, plus Bluetooth LE 5.4, 2 x DisplayPort 2.1, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a mix of USB-C and USB-A ports up to USB4 speeds.
Pimax is pitching this machine as a compact desktop to power its next-generation VR headsets, pitting it against Valve’s Steam Frame while offering a more premium, desktop-first experience at comparable pricing. The new Crystal Pro has a resolution of 5,760 by 2,880, supports up to 120Hz refresh rates, and features over 1150 local dimming zones on its Mini LED QLED displays.
We don’t have pricing or release information on the Spation yet, but the new Crystal Pro will launch at $1,399 for the base version. It’s set to start shipping in early 2027, with hands-on demos in Q4 this year.
