During today’s DC Black Label / Vertigo Panel at New York Comic Con, DC Comics announced a new anthology series called DC Black Label Presents, which will feature 48-page, artist-driven one-shot stories.
The series will launch in Summer 2027, featuring Terry Dodson writing/drawing a Zatanna comic, Amy Reeder writing/drawing a Poison Ivy comic, and Ho Che Anderson writing & Denys Cowan drawing an O.M.A.C. comic.
DC Executive Editor Chris Conroy made the announcement, noting that the series will feature “characters from all across the DC Universe — none of them will be Batman.” Playfully referencing the evergreen, out-of-continuity imprints early, Bat-heavy slate.
Dodson, Reeder, and Cowan appeared on the panel, sharing more details about their comics. They all voiced gratitude for the long deadlines this project has given them, and for being able to have so much creative control over the stories.
“I’ll tell you what,” Dodson said, “This won’t be the last time I do this. It’s been so satisfying drawing these pages that I wrote.”
The publisher also announced two other new Black Label series.
The first was Green Lantern: Dying of the Light from writer Jason Aaron and artist Tirso, a five issue series that’s slated to launch in March.
Aaron likened the book to a take on Dark Knight <a href="https://comicvibe.com/monopoly-is-back-as-the-hit-game-returns-to-mcdonalds-restaurants/” title=”MONOPOLY is Back as the Hit Game Returns to McDonald's Restaurants”>Returns, just in the world of Green Lantern and Hal Jordan.
“It’s very much me doing, ‘What if Frank Miller had done Green Lantern?’” Aaron said.
The main plot point revealed is that it will involve Hal after a rough 20 years, in a galactic prison, with a barely working Green Lantern ring.
Finally, the other Black Label book announced at the show was Joker/Harley: Malicious Intent from writer Kami Garcia, and a trio of fantastic artists: Mico Suayan, Cat Staggs, and Jason Badower, with main series covers by Martin Simmonds.
That book is a follow-up to an earlier Black Label title, Joker/Harley: Criminal Sanity.
Garcia, who said she used a criminal psychologist as a consultant, said this story stands alone without having read its predecessor, and should be a great fit for fans of shows like Criminal Minds or True Detective.
But the real star there is the art.
“The pages look like covers,” Garcia said. “They’re incredible.”
