The legendary Ten Rings of Power are returning to the Marvel Universe, and only one hero stands in their way of falling into the wrong hands: Sam Alexander, A.K.A. Nova!
The fan-favorite hero makes an impactful return this October in NOVA: RETURN OF THE RINGS #1, a Marvel’s Voicesone-shot celebrating Hispanic & Latin American Heritage Month. Written by Josh Trujillo (Planet of the Apes Vs. Fantastic Four) with art by Rafael Loureiro (Dazzler) andBruno Abdias (White Tiger: Reborn), the issue kicks off a major saga centered around the Ten Rings.
The one-shot also includes the all-new Nova: Shining Light Infinity Comicby Juan Ponce (Redwing: Independence Day Infinity Comic) and Andy Pereira (Wiccan: Witches’ Road) as a backup story, exploring how Sam balances his epic super hero adventures with being there for his family.

MARVEL.COM: How did you approach writing NOVA: RETURN OF THE RINGS #1? What was collaborating with Rafael Loureiro & Bruno Abdias like?
JOSH TRUJILLO: I wanted to write a Nova story that would be satisfying for longtime fans, but also accessible to people who may have never read about Sam before! What that meant for our team was an action-packed adventure that drew from and celebrated Sam’s incredible past.
There are moments in the comic that touch on his personal history, both with his family and also the Marvel Universe as a whole. It is incredible to see Rafael, Bruno and the entire team bring it to life!
MARVEL.COM: Having written teenage heroes like Aaron Fischer and Viv Vision, what’s different or the same about writing Sam Alexander?
JOSH TRUJILLO: In some ways Sam is like Aaron, in that they’re both headstrong heroes with big hearts. Whereas Aaron struggles with his hero identity at times, Sam fully embraces it and loves being a super hero! Viv is obviously a different case. She’s more thoughtful, more strategic, but like Sam and Aaron she has an incredible heroic legacy to guide her! How they interpret that differently makes them so interesting!
MARVEL.COM: Sam has faced a host of villains in the past. What can you tell us about the threat he faces here and how the Ten Rings of Power come into play?
JOSH TRUJILLO: Sam’s greatest strength is his community, his heritage, and we needed a villain that threatened that at the very core. Who immediately came to mind was the sinister King Arasmer, who erases memories and separates people from their own history! He has faced other heroes before, but Sam is a unique threat and a unique opportunity. Arasmer has stumbled across one of the Ten Rings of Power, but one is never enough. He’ll need the power of Nova if he hopes to achieve his ultimate, evil goals!
MARVEL.COM: Can readers expect to see any familiar friends or foes in this story?
JOSH TRUJILLO: YES! You will see a celebration of Sam’s heroic allies throughout the years, as well as members of his family, and his community. It’s a lovefest in that way, but don’t get too comfortable. Nothing is safe when the Ten Rings of Power are in play!

Deemed too dangerous to remain on Earth, the Ten Rings of Power were jettisoned off into the depths of space—but have since broken containment! Now one of the rings returns to Earth with a brand-new bearer hellbent on getting his hands on the sentient supercomputer, Worldmind, as his first step of galactic domination! His target? None other than Sam Alexander, A.K.A. NOVA!
