Pop Culture Canada returns to the Callander Community Centre this Saturday, July 11. With 50 vendors, expect a wealth of comics, cards, toys, manga, and all types of retro fun
Plus, as evening settles in, Great Canadian Wrestling is hosting an epic wrestling match. The event is also at the Community Centre, at 1984 Swale Street in Callander. Doors open at 6 p.m. with the first match beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets start at $20 for the event and can be purchased online or at the door
The Callander ComiCon runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Advanced online tickets are $7.12 (which includes processing fee) and $10 at the door. Tickets are available through Pop Culture Canada’s website
David Wyldstar, the lead event coordinator for Pop Culture Canada, was thrilled to launch the first Callander ComiCon last year, and he can’t wait to bring it back. Last July’s event drew a lot of people, and Wyldstar told BayToday he has also booked the Orton Room at the Community Centre just in case its gets too crowded in the main hall

Pop Culture Canada produces similar events throughout Ontario, and each year, more people are coming out. “There’s definitely an increase in interest,” Wyldstar said. “And it’s not just for the comics, its for the nostalgia in general.”
Speaking of nostalgia, remember POGS? Well, Chris Lee, the reigning POG world champion will be there on Saturday, with an impressive display of various retro POGS. If you need a refresher on the game, Lee will be happy to spread the word
“We’re really into pop culture, and we’re really into nostalgia,” Wyldstar said. “Everybody’s welcome here, it doesn’t matter what you’re into. If you’re into Star Trek, Star Wars, Batman of Superman, there’s something for everyone. Everybody’s cool here.”
Wyldstar added that another ComicCon is planned for North Bay this October, so keep an eye on Pop Culture Canada’s website
