It feels like just yesterday that Iowa hosted Ohio State at Kinnick, but now they are on the road for another Big Ten matchup.
The Hawkeyes travel to Washington to face the Washington Huskies on a short week after a disappointing 31-14 loss. It will be a good test of Iowa’s mental fortitude after taking one on the chin against Ohio State, and luckily, Washington is scuffling right now. The Huskies are coming off two consecutive close losses in week four (27-24 vs. Minnesota) and week five (25-21 at USC). No Big Ten games are easy, especially on the road, and the Hawkeyes must get back on track heading into a bye week.

Weather (Seattle)

Forecast provided byAccuWeather
It will be a brisk 48 degrees at kickoff for Iowa at Washington. Although it will be cold, there won’t be much wind, and there is a low 25 percent chance of precipitation. It will definitely feel like an October game in the Big Ten, but the conditions will be ok for some Friday night football.
Series history

Iowa and Washington don’t have an extensive history, having played only seven times since the Huskies joined the Big Ten Conference. Iowa holds a slim advantage with a 4-3 record, including a 40-16 win in October 2024 at Kinnick Stadium.
Early predictions
Both teams are coming off losses, and Iowa is a slight underdog in this road matchup. Washington has played Minnesota and USC very closely over its past two games, but hasn’t done enough offensively to pull out a win. The Huskies averaged 299.0 total offensive yards, with the outlier coming against a suspect USC defense last week when they put up 319 total yards. Washington has been far better passing (221.0 yards per game) than running (77.5 yards per game) over the past two, which plays into Iowa’s hands. Iowa has been slightly better at stopping the pass than the run, and has another opportunity to do that against Washington.
Iowa’s defense has been exhausted from being on the field so often, but they haven’t been as elite as in previous seasons. That’s because the defensive line hasn’t been getting as much pressure, but that started to shift last weekend. Phil Parker sent more blitzes and mixed in more players on the line. Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin got what he wanted, but Iowa did pressure him. Iowa’s main issues are on offense, and it will be interesting to see what happens if starting QB Hank Brown can’t play. Jeremy Hecklinski looked good against Ohio State in limited duty, and might be forced to plkay again. Ferentz has expressed confidence in Hecklinski, and he could give the offense an edge.
The rushing game has struggled over the past two games, and this is a good game to get back on track. With Brown sidelined, the quarterback run game will come into play as Hecklinski throws for two scores and runs for another. The defense also gets back on track and stifles the Washington running game en route to a win.
Final score prediction: Iowa 27, Washington 13
