The first Nintendo Switch 2 jailbreak opened the way for all sorts of interesting projects such as homebrew appsfilling gaps in system functionality, datamining beta clients such as The Duskbloods closed beta client, and dumping games, which led to the equally interesting first PC emulators and experiments with NVIDIA DLSS 5. However, they almost pale in comparison to what a single developer achieved using DeepSeek Harness: porting current-generation Nintendo games to the original Nintendo Switch.
X user @touhoufagyuri shared over the past few days multiple videos showcasing original Nintendo Switch ports of Mario Kart World and Pokémon Pokopia. Porting the first game was not an easy feat, as the game went from barely running on the system to achieving relatively solid performance with rendering issues, and finally to aclose-to-playable state by using prebaked shaders, forced LOD, a lower resolution, and other unspecified optimizations on an overclocked Switch. Although some stuttering remains evident, and large parts of the free roam experience were cut down, it is undeniable that this is an extremely impressive feat.
Even more impressive is seeing a more recent Nintendo Switch 2 game run on the original Nintendo Switch. To achieve a playable state in Pokémon Pokopia, the developer had to use an overclocked Nintendo Switch and drop the resolution to 720p, as running the game at 1080p delivered only 10–15 FPS. By capping the framerate to 30 FPS, the developer solved the frame pacing issues manifesting with a framerate hovering in the 35 FPS range, but other issues could still arise during the course of a normal playthrough that would not normally manifest during a quick test.
Unfortunately, no one will be able to test these technically impressive Nintendo Switch 2 to Nintendo Switch ports anytime soon. “Due to legal reasons, the code is not publicly available. It’s strictly for display purposes only, so please purchase the official game if you want to play,”@touhoufagyuri explained. Definitely the safest course of action, considering Nintendo’s history and how the company is surely keeping a close eye on a situation that is definitely more explosive than anything the Japanese company dealt with in the past.
