Nintendo stock climbed on Friday after the company announced that global sales of Pokémon Pokopia had surpassed 5 million units across physical and digital versions, just over four months after the game launched on March 5. By the close of trading, Tokyo-listed shares had risen 6.6%, putting the stock on course for a weekly advance of 10.3%.

Pokémon Pokopia, exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2, casts players as a Ditto character tasked with constructing and reviving a virtual world, making it a life-simulation experience. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company group made the sales announcement on Thursday. The milestone makes Pokémon Pokopia the second-best-selling game on the Switch 2, behind Mario Kart World and ahead of Donkey Kong Bananza

Nintendo also released Part 1 of a paid Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, which adds an underwater town, new Pokémon, furniture, and food. A second part of the expansion pass is planned for late 2026, with a third scheduled for 2027, the company said. A free software update adding an underwater exploration move is also available now for all players.

Nintendo plans to launch the Switch 2 in Indonesia in December, its first official console release in the country, with a Salim Group subsidiary handling distribution

The Pokopia sales milestone arrives as Nintendo navigates a difficult stretch. Despite a year-to-date loss exceeding 16%, Nintendo shares have surged more than 26% over the past month. Nintendo’s June-quarter results showed Switch 2 console shipments of 3.82 million units, representing a 34.4% drop compared with the same period a year earlier. Nintendo’s full-year forecast calls for 16.5 million Switch 2 units through the fiscal year ending March 2027, a figure that would fall short of the prior year’s total.

Rising memory chip costs forced Nintendo to raise the price of the Switch 2 by $50 to $499.99 in the U.S., effective September 1. The company said it expects roughly 100 billion yen in combined costs from higher memory prices and tariff measures over the full fiscal year. Nintendo has said it factored those headwinds into its full-year guidance, which it left intact after first-quarter results, with net sales projected at 2.05 trillion yen and net profit at 310 billion yen.
