Nintendo job listing offers hope for Switch 2 docked VRR support

With the introduction of the Switch 2 Nintendo fans got their first taste of VRR, or Variable Refresh Rate. For those who don’t know, VRR will change a TV’s refresh rate in real-time to match a game’s framerate, resulting in a smoother experience. It’s certainly a nice option to have and Switch 2 owners can make use of it right now…depending on how they play
The Switch 2 does support VRR, but only in handheld mode. Before Switch 2 launched there was talk of VRR support both docked and handheld, and even Nintendo’s on FAQs pointed to that being the case. Things were changed shortly before launch and VRR was shifted to handheld use only, and we’re still wondering why
We know that the Switch 2 dock is capable of VRR, yet Nintendo has blocked it off. While we never got an official explanation for that, it seems like Nintendo still has some kinks to work out, and they’re looking to do that right now. Nintendo has posted a job listing for for a display engineer with experience in troubleshooting display protocol/VRR issues between HDMI and DisplayPort signaling. While not proof positive that Switch 2 will get docked VRR support in the future, it at least leaves us with some hope.
