Welcome to your end-of-week roundup of everything new on Netflix US! As August comes to a close and we look ahead to the fall season, Netflix is wrapping up the month with a fantastic batch of 37 new releases (16 movies and 21 series) added over the past seven days. Whether you are looking for massive blockbuster fantasy adventures, viral horror hits, or one of the many new Netflix Originals, this week’s lineup is sending the summer out with a bang.
Before we dive into the data to see what subscribers have actually been watching as we head into Labor Day weekend, let’s take a look at our three streaming highlights for the week:
Best New Movies and Shows on Netflix This Week
The Whisper Man (2026)
Type: Movie
Genre: Crime, Mystery, Thriller | Runtime: 1h 52m
If you’re a fan of dark, gripping psychological thrillers, this brand-new Netflix Original is guaranteed to send shivers down your spine this weekend. Based on the chilling bestselling novel, the film follows a grieving father and son who move to a quiet, idyllic town for a fresh start, only to discover it’s haunted by a dark history involving a notorious serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.” When a young boy goes missing in a strikingly similar fashion, the town is plunged into paranoia.
In our full review of the film, we praised its relentlessly creepy atmosphere and edge-of-your-seat tension but noted the film ultimately fell short of some of its goals. That said, if you’re a fan of anyone in this incredible cast (Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan, Adam Scott, Hamish Linklater), this should be the perfect mystery to queue up for a late-night watch!
Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023)

One of the most pleasant cinematic surprises of 2023 has officially made its way back to Netflix! You don’t need to be a tabletop gaming nerd to thoroughly enjoy this incredibly fun, fast-paced fantasy heist movie. Starring Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Hugh Grant, and Regé-Jean Page, the film follows a charming thief and his band of unlikely adventurers as they embark on an epic quest to retrieve a lost relic. It’s genuinely funny and interesting throughout, and ultimately it was a shame it didn’t connect quite the way Paramount wanted, meaning a sequel is sadly not on the horizon.
M3GAN (2022)

Genre: Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller | Runtime: 1h 42m
The viral killer doll movie that took the internet by storm is ready to terrorize your weekend! Allison Williams stars as Gemma, a brilliant roboticist who suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned niece. Under immense pressure at work and home, Gemma decides to pair her prototype AI doll, M3GAN, with the young girl. It seems like the perfect solution—until the protective android becomes murderously self-aware. It’s a campy, creepy, and ridiculously entertaining sci-fi thriller and given that Netflix added the sequel (which is night and day different from this entry) earlier this year as part of its new partial first window deal with Universal, you can binge both together.
Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young (2025)

Netflix’s critically acclaimed Untold sports documentary series is back with another compelling volume. This time, the franchise turns its lens on Vince Young, one of the most electrifying and polarizing quarterbacks in college football history. From his legendary, National Championship-winning performance at the Rose Bowl for the Texas Longhorns to his turbulent, highly scrutinized career in the NFL, Young sits down to offer his raw, unfiltered perspective on the intense highs and staggering lows of his football journey.

Most Popular Movies This Week
Over on the Movies list, action and documentaries have completely reshuffled the board. The intense original Spanish thriller Facing El Chapo shot up to claim the #1 spot with 77 points, while the suspenseful To Catch a Cheater followed closely behind at #2 (57 points). Last week’s champion, Don’t Say Good Luck, slid down a couple of pegs but is still pulling in very strong numbers at #3 (54 points).
We are also seeing the immediate impact of this week’s fresh arrivals! Our highlight, Untold: The Testimony of Vince Young, had a fantastic debut at #7 (30 points). Gamers also clearly flocked to their screens, making Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look a viral streaming hit tying for #8. Finally, expect to see the killer doll M3GAN (currently sitting at 1 point) climb the ranks aggressively over the weekend.

On the TV Series charts, it went exactly as we predicted last week! The highly anticipated final season of Outer Banks absolutely dominated viewership, rocketing to the #1 spot with 71 points as fans rushed to see how the Pogues’ epic treasure hunt concludes. The intense Swedish thriller Blood Sacrifice also made an impressive jump up to #2 (54 points), bumping last week’s champion Tires down to #3 (46 points).
Further down the list, this week’s new additions made a quick splash. The gripping true-crime original Death of the Pastor’s Wife secured a strong top-five debut with 30 points. Plus, reality TV fans who couldn’t get enough of Let’s Marry Harry showed up for all the dramatic aftermath, pushing Let’s Marry Harry: The Reunion up to #9 (20 points).
