    Highlights

    • Global-K Chart records 1.02 million visitors as fans navigate beyond geographical borders.
    • The ranking system changes the rules by adding fan behaviour to traditional streaming data.
    • Melon’s mobile traffic hits a first-half high following the chart’s launch.

A few days ago, the internet was booming with the news of a fresh tripartite partnership between the dominant music platforms of South Korea, China, and Japan, which could allegedly reshape global K-pop consumption metrics. The Global K-Chart, operated jointly by Kakao Entertainment’s Melon, China’s Tencent Music, and Japan’s LINE Music, launched on June 1, 2026, and attracted 1.02 million unique mobile web visitors across 160 countries

The data, released by the South Korean Kakao Entertainment, shows how global stakeholders are rapidly adopting the new chart initiative. With this, the K-pop industry is set to experience a fundamental shift in measuring K-pop’s global reach within the global music market. The chart represents an attempt to centralize previously isolated regional architectures into a single cohesive ecosystem

Fans Worldwide Push Global-K Chart Beyond Asia’s Borders

The chart’s initial footprint shows the international audience to be actively bypassing geographic service boundaries. Although the Global-K Chart is officially accessible onlyought in a significant number of overseas visitors across the world. Notably, Indonesia topped, followed by Japan, the Philippines, the United States, Australia, and Thailand.

Fan Engagement Data Reshapes the Future of K-pop Rankings?

This global influx directly influenced the host platform’s performance. Reportedly, it drove a 36.1% month-on-month increase in Melon’s overall domestic, as well as international mobile web unique visitors (UV). When compared to the outcome of May 2026, the increase marked a first-half high for the company

Instead of depending solely on usual streaming volumes, the Global-K Chartaggregates play counts along with proprietary “fan activity metrics” throughout all three participating platforms. Industry analysts reportedly note that this hybrid methodology has diversified the chart’s competitive dynamic.

Notably, early data showing substantial engagement was bolstered not just by newer acts but also by well-known second-generation K-pop groups like SHINee and BIGBANG. The chart also created a massive buzz online, with over 106,000 mentions generated across 30 global online communities within 30 days of launch. Reportedly, much of the online discussion were based on how the chart measures and reflects fan engagement

New Chart Positions Itself as Global Standard for K-pop Metrics

The rapid initial traction shows a long-standing deficit in the market for a centralized measurement system. Without a verified cross-border system, tracking global K-pop fandom behavior throughout different regions and platforms would have stayed fragmented. Moving forward, this three-nation collaboration between South Korea’s Melon (Kakao Entertainment), China’s Tencent Music, and Japan’s LINE Music, plans to utilize such combined data to make the Global K-chart as the key commercial benchmark for the genre’s global footprint.
