What happens in the Bass X Machina trailer?
The trailer opens with a voice-over by Henry as Bass, who is a cyborg, playing over grotesque images of Bass in various stages of dismemberment, with wires protruding from his body. The story is set around the time of the American Civil War.
The trailer reveals that the montage depicts a recurring dream experienced by Bass, who has PTSD. Union leaders task him with stopping a Confederate scientist who could reignite the Civil War and potentially win it.
Bass is then revealed to be a bounty hunter, making his way through a steampunk version of the Wild West. He takes on a young companion who also appears to have mechanical enhancements. What follows is a montage of him and his new protege fighting multiple mechanical monsters, including a minotaur. Bass’s mechanical arm is equipped with energy weapons, giving him an array of combat abilities.
The footage also introduces a female character, who seemingly practices magic. To exact her revenge, she is looking to reignite the Civil War while Bass wants to stop it at all costs. The trailer also shows the Confederate scientist suiting up in a mech to fight Bass.
Apart from Brian Tyree Henry, the show also features Janelle Monae, Tati Gabrielle, Cree Summer, and Chaske Spencer in its voice cast.
