Netflix is turning one of the world’s most recognizable board games into a high‑stakes reality competition – and the streamer is now looking for contestants
According to a new announcement from Netflix and Hasbro Entertainment, casting has officially begun for “Monopoly,” a life‑size adaptation of the classic real estate game that will feature 12 players competing for a $2 million prize
The project marks Netflix’s latest push into unscripted adaptations of familiar franchises, following “Squid Game: The Challenge” and the upcoming “Wonka’s The Golden Ticket,” which premieres Sept. 23
Here’s what else to know about new show and how you could become a part of it
How will the new show based on Monopoly work?
The show will drop contestants into a fully built Monopoly Town Square, where every roll, negotiation and deal could determine whether they build an empire or go bankrupt. Officials say players will start on equal footing, but that balance won’t last long. As in the original game, fortunes can swing fast – and one wrong move could send a contestant directly to jail
Netflix says the competition will unfold as a large‑scale social experiment, blending strategy, alliances and cutthroat gameplay. Bankrupt players will be eliminated one by one until a single competitor remains to “take it all.”
When is the new show set to start streaming on Netflix?
No exact date has been announced, but the series is set to premiere in fall 2027
How did the show come together?
Studio Lambert – the company behind “Squid Game: The Challenge” and “The Circle” – won a competitive bidding process involving roughly 50 production companies The series is being produced in partnership with Hasbro Entertainment, which struck a deal with Netflix in 2025 for Monopoly rights. Former Netflix unscripted chief Jeff Gaspin told Deadline he greenlit the project without a formal pitch, citing the runaway popularity of the mobile game “Monopoly Go!”
Executive producers include Studio Lambert’s Nia Yemoh, Tim Harcourt, Jack Burgess, Stephen Lambert and Kim Murphy, along with Hasbro Entertainment’s Gabriel Marano and Zachary Edwin
The Monopoly franchise has sold more than half a billion copies worldwide since Parker Brothers began licensing the game in 1935. The Netflix series is separate from a feature‑film adaptation currently in development at Lionsgate and Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap
How you can apply
Netflix is now accepting applications from anyone ready to compete in a real‑world version of the board game – complete with property deals, surprise twists and the looming threat of bankruptcy. Applicants must be at least 21 years old, be legal U.S. residents, hold a valid passport and be available for up to three weeks of filming
To audition for “Monopoly,” visit the official casting page. To apply, candidates must complete a registration form and upload a 1‑minute video explaining who they are, why they want to compete and how they’d play the game.
