The NASCAR Cup Series Chase rolls into World Wide Technology Raceway this weekend for the Enjoy Illinois 300, and the championship picture already looks a lot tighter than it did one week ago. Christopher Bell opened the playoffs with a win at Darlington, jumping into second place in the standings behind Denny Hamlin after Hamlin finished 18th in the Cook Out Southern 500. What looked like a comfortable advantage for Hamlin entering The Chase has already been cut down to almost nothing, and the top of the standings is now packed together heading into the second race.
Hamlin still has the lead, but Bell is only 12 points back, and the top four drivers are separated by just 24 points with nine races still left to decide the championship. That means every playoff driver is still alive, and every stage point, pit stop, restart, and mistake can matter long before the field gets close to the final race. The Enjoy Illinois 300 is only the second stop in The Chase, but with all 16 drivers still in the mix, Sunday’s race is as important as any other.
The green flag drops in Illinois on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. EDT, and racing fans across the country can watch every lap on Sling TV.
