According to the Netflix website, A Different World will be returning with a new sequel series that will begin streaming on September 24th.
According to the synopsis, this version of the series will focus on Dwayne Wayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitley Gilbert-Wayne’s (Jasmine Guy) youngest daughter, Deborah Wayne as she navigates college life along with a new generation of students at Hillman College.
When Deborah, Dwayne Wayne, and Whitley Gilbert’s free-spirited, well-intentioned, yet rebellious youngest child, enters her freshman year at Hillman College, she finds the shadow of her parents difficult to escape as she sets out to build her own legacy, while having the time of her life, alongside a whole new generation of Hillman’s best and brightest.
According to the official website, Felicia Pride serves as the showrunner and executive producer while Debbie Allen, who was the original series director at the start of the second season, will be returning as executive producer and the director of the sequel series’ premiere episode.
It has been reported that returning in some capacity to the sequel series from the original series are as follows: Jasmine Guy as Whitley, Kadeem Hardison as Dwayne, Darryl M. Bell as Ron, Cree Summer as Freddie, Charnele Brown as Kim, Dawnn Lewis as Jalessa, Glynn Turman as Colonel Taylor, Jada Pinkett Smith as Lena, Ajai Sanders as Gina, Karen Malina White as Charmaine, and Jennifer Lewis as Professor Davenport.
