A mod adds VR to Diablo II: Resurrected’s first-person view, with controller-based arm movements and options to walk or teleport. It builds on a 3D mod that also supports third-person play, but works only offline because Blizzard’s integrity checks cause crashes.

Blizzard’s Diablo 2: Resurrected is a faithful remaster of the iconic action-RPG, layering modern rendered visuals over the classic isometric 2D presentation. This means what you’re seeing is rendered in 3D, but because it mimics the original game’s isometric viewpoint and camera tricks, unlocking the camera to view the action in a close-up third-person or first-person perspective takes some work.
Without going into all of the details, the Diablo II: Resurrected in 3D mod from emmericp achieves this with maths to apply correct rendering distances and perspectives – which is detailed in this video. The end result is stunning: Diablo 2 in 3D, playable from a third-person or first-person perspective. The mod only works offline, though, as Blizzard’s integrity checks cause the game to crash after a minute or so of play.
It’s an impressive achievement and the sort of mod that totally transforms one of the most iconic and influential games of all time. And with that, Fantastic-Author2736 has taken the mod one step further by adding VR support to the first-person view of the Diablo II: Resurrected in 3D mod.

With the mod, you can look around as the character turns; arm movements map to controllers, and you can walk around or teleport. The mod runs through FlatVR and BodyWalk, and the VR view adds sky and fog to cover what would otherwise look like sprawling empty stretches of maps.

For fans of the game, Diablo 2 in VR is a wild concept. Simply picturing going up against Diablo, Mephisto, or Baal in first-person sounds incredible, as would exploring iconic locations like the ruins of Tristram, the Catacombs, and the Chaos Sanctuary.
