Despite two much-maligned live-action film adaptations inspired by the popular fighting video game Street Fighter in the past several decades – its namesake 1994 film and Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li (2009) – it seems Hollywood has yet to give up on the franchise.
Paramount Pictures just premiered its live-action reboot film Street Fighter starring Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa and Callina Liang.
The film’s plot follows the game’s fighter avatars Ryu (Koji) and his estranged adopted brother Ken Masters (Centineo), who are reunited when Chun-Li (Liang) enlists their help for the World Warrior tournament.
Chun-Li is perhaps one of the most recognisable video game avatars. Introduced by Street Fighter in 1991 as its first playable female character, Chun-Li has become a pop culture symbol, and even inspired Nicki Minaj’s hit 2018 track “Chun-Li”.
Here’s everything you need to know about actress Callina Liang, who portrays the fan-favourite character.
What is Callina Liang’s background?
Liang was born in Vancouver, Canada, and spent her early years living in Beijing, China. In 2010, Liang relocated to Sydney with her father for his work.
During her time there, Liang attended the Australian International School and earned the “Top in the World” Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards for her IGCSEs in Drama.
After living in Australia for four years, Liang moved to Singapore where she continued to pursue acting at LASALLE College of the Arts and took part in a number of stage productions.
How did Callina Liang get into acting?
In 2019, Liang moved to New York and landed her first television series role in the 2022 British teen drama show Tell Me Everything.
In 2024, Liang appeared in the psychological horror film Presence starring Lucy Liu and Julia Fox. That same year, Liang landed her first starring role in the film Bad Genius, where she portrays a student who runs a school-wide cheating scheme to help her schoolmates pass their exams.
Who is Callina Liang dating?
Liang has sparked dating rumours with her Street Fighter co-star Noah Centineo.
They were seen holding hands at the Street Fighter premiere after-party at The Bird Streets Club in Hollywood on October 12.
Neither has confirmed their relationship status. Centineo, known for his performance in To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, was last rumoured to be dating Zoe Kravitz in 2025. Kravitz got engaged to Harry Styles in April this year.
