Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 Embraces New Storytelling Formula, & It’s for the Best
Marvel Studios is abandoning Daredevil’s MCU formula in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3. Instead of separating the upcoming team-up into miniseries (The Defenders) and then resetting to a solo Daredevil season, Born AgainSeason 3 folds the team-up concept (the returns of Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist) into the same season as Matt Murdock’s isolated, more personal storyline.
While the Netflix blueprint for telling Marvel stories allowed each chapter to breathe, maintain tonal focus, and deliver a satisfying escalation followed by intimate fallout, Daredevil: Born AgainSeason 3 will offer viewers an exciting new way to experience the MCU’s street-level storytelling.
Matt’s powerlessness behind bars stands in stark contrast to the team’s collective action and responsibilities outside as New York enters the post-Fisk era. This setup explores the concepts of legacy, responsibility, and sacrifice, and what happens when Murdock is sidelined for a long time (though set photos spoiled that Matt will be back in action sooner rather than later).
The Defenders’ return in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 also allows for a deeper exploration than what the Netflix mini-series presented. Danny Rand’s much-awaited reintroduction lays the groundwork for his high-stakes arc as he returns to a version of New York where the power vacuum is wide open following Fisk’s defeat.

The inclusion of the Defenders in Daredevil: Born AgainSeason 3 feels earned, given these compelling storylines. Instead of using them for major action pieces, having Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand step up while Matt is imprisoned creates character-driven drama that elevates the characters and the show as a whole.
Abandoning Daredevil’s MCU formula also transforms Born Again into the central hub for street-level storytelling, forgoing the need for immediate spinoffs or another miniseries to expand its own little bubble. Doing this improves the street-level corner of the MCU without confusing the viewers with the arrival of other shows.
There’s Still a Catch for Daredevil: Born Again Season 3’s New Storytelling Approach
Netflix’s Daredevil series relied on its intense focus on Matt’s superhero duality and its consequences, making it the trilogy’s greatest strength.
The eight-episode count could also present major challenges, as some story threads could lead to rushed payoffs or underdeveloped characters. There could also be a setback if a good chunk of the season focuses more on the other Defenders and not Matt’s journey inside the prison, undermining what the show is really about.
What the Future Holds for Daredevil: Born Again Amid Its Defenders Integration
Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 will likely end with Matt escaping prison through the combined efforts of Karen Page and the Defenders, reclaiming the mantle of Daredevil, and culminating in a proper team-up with the rest of the heroes.
Daredevil: Born AgainSeason 4 and beyond could lean more on the ensemble storytelling while keeping Matt Murdock as its central character. It’s also possible that solo-centered shows focusing on Jessica Jones and the Heroes for Hire (Luke Cage and Iron Fist) could happen down the line, but it would likely depend on fan reception toward these characters during their appearances in Born Again.
With Daredevil: Born Again acting as a central hub for street-level storytelling, future seasons could also bring back Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle, Echo, White Tiger, Kate Bishop, and more, making the show the premier spot for these characters to make a comeback in the MCU proper. While this approach is riskier because it could undermine Daredevil’s solo arc, it is smarter in the long run for building a sustainable street-level corner for the MCU.
