Kim Kardashian is opening up about a recent health diagnosis in the upcoming season of the show, “The Kardashians.”

The Skims founder said in a Sept. 17 trailer for Season Eight that she has been diagnosed with “something called esophagitis.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, esophagitis causes swelling and irritation of the tissues that line the esophagus, which aids in carrying food and drinks from the mouth to the stomach.
In the show’s trailer, the severity of Kim Kardashian’s condition remains unknown. The trailer shows her in a hospital bed undergoing a medical examination.
Kris Jenner, Kim’s mother, reacted to the news in the trailer, saying, “I can’t, it makes me want to cry.”
USA Today said Kim’s father, Robert Kardashian, died at age 59 in 2003 after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer, a condition distinct from esophagitis.
The Mayo Clinic said inflammation of the esophagus can make swallowing difficult or painful, coinciding with chest pain that can last for a long period of time. Esophagitis can be caused by several factors, including stomach acid backing up into the esophagus, infection, allergies and oral medications.
Officials said treatment varies depending on the cause and severity of tissue damage in the esophagus.
