He’s cute and he’s spreading! But where did he come from?
His name is Symbie, and he’s a cute little glob of symbiote terror. Following in the footsteps of smash sensation the similarly chibi Jeff the Landshark, Symbie debuted on Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends show, because the world loves cute cartoon characters.
But Symbie has also been making his mark in the comics, debuting in Amazing Spider-Man #11 written by Joe Kelley and drawn by Pepe Larraz, and later popping up in Spidey and his Amazing Friends #1 CGD 2026 written by “Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends” staff writer Danielle Kreger, Symbie Infinity Comic by Jacob Chabot and Marvel Mutts Infinity Comic by MacKenzie Cadenhead and Enid Balám, AND the upcoming Spidey and his Amazing Friends #1 Halloween Trick-or-Read 2026 comic releasing for younger fans this October.
Kelly and artist David Baldeón (with a back-up story from Jacob Chabotin the spirit of the scrolling comic) will FINALLY reveal Symbie’s origin in AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: SYMBIE #1, on sale December 9th.
Spidey met the weird little monster in space but had no idea of the little glob’s history. Take a journey back to the very beginning of the Klyntar race that led to Venom and Carnage and see the journey Symbie has made. It may surprise you!
On introducing Symbie to comic readers, Kelly shared, “From the moment I saw the Symbie design from the Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends show team, I was giddy – both because he’s adorable and also oddly… sinister. There’s something intriguing about a symbiote in the Marvel Universe that runs around without a host… it’s weird and unnerving, right? Even when it’s adorable, maybe moreso because it’s adorable. That is a fun character – layered and built to subvert expectations. Much like Symbie himself, this book is funny, layered, surprisingly dark, and flat out weird. It’s a blast.”
The issue will come with the usual array of variant covers, including one by Pepe Larraz, one by Baldeón, and more from Pere Pérez, Nogi San and the ever popular TBA.
