What’s more powerful than the Infinity Gauntlet? Blind bags

Ultimate Endgame #1, which was published last December, was the best-selling single issue Marvel had released in “quite some time,” and it wasn’t just because readers wanted to see the final chapter of the Ultimate Universe. Ultimate Endgame #1 was sold in blind bags, which readers and collectors bought in droves, hoping to obtain rare variant covers. Variants sketched by Robert Downey Jr. and Kevin Feige were given small print runs (we’re talking four), causing The Hollywood Reporter to compare it to the hunt for Willy Wonka’s golden tickets.

This was a win for Marvel, who got huge sales, consumer excitement, and favorable press. Now they’re hoping to repeat the success with Avengers #1, which hits stores on November 4. Marvel is planning True Believer Blind Bags, similar to what they did with Ultimate Endgame #1. However, there might be a few surprises in there which take things to the next level.  Chip Zdarsky, who is writing Avengers #1, reveals that he and Marvel are brainstorming ways to make the True Believer Blind Bags special.

“We’re doing a blind bag for Avengers #1, and I’m like, how do we make that fun,” Avengers #1 writer Chip Zdarsky says during a conversation with SKTCHD. “How are we going to do that and make it something interesting. Those are conversations I have to have with Marvel. I’m sure I’ll be doing some dumb sketches in there.”

Hey Marvel, I’ll give you a free idea. Avengers #1 hits the stands in November, and Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters the following month. One of your variant covers should be a free pass to the red carpet premiere. That would be a gimmick to end all gimmicks
