Despite an initial Season 2 renewal for Marvel’s series Wonder Man, Disney+ has elected to ultimately cancel the show after just 1 season.
Per an exclusive report by Variety,despite a renewal announcement for the comic book adaptation back in March, “a writers’ room for Season 2 was never opened and the show’s writers have been released to pursue other projects.”
Although Disney+ does not regularly publish streaming data, Wonder Man secured an impressive 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for its leading actor, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen, The Handmaid’s Tale).
In addition to Abdul-Mateen, the series’ main cast comprised X Mayo(The Good Doctor, Abbott Elementary), Zlatko Burić(Superman, Triangle of Sadness), Ben Kingsley (Gandhi, Iron Man 3), Arian Moayed(Spider-Man: No Way Home, Succession), Joe Pantoliano (The Matrix, The Last of Us), Byron Bowers(The Eric Andre Show, The Chi), and Josh Gad(Frozen, Pixels).

Wonder Manwas co-created by Andrew Guest(30 Rock, Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Daniel Destin Cretton (Short Term 12, Just Mercy), the latter of whom served as the new director for Spider-Man: Brand New Day,Marvel’s biggest cinematic outing in recent years, which opens worldwide on July 31. Cretton takes over from Jon Watts, the director of the first three Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, led by Tom Holland.
