To say Marvel has had a mixed journey with its Disney+ shows would be an understatement. While the studio started on the right foot with the release of WandaVision, it quickly became apparent that most series failed to make the most of the weekly release format by being structured like overly long movies.
Moreover, most shows ended after just one season, with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, and Moon Knight standing out as notable examples. To top things off, projects like Secret Invasion were released to negative reception, and heroes likeWerewolf by Night were never seen again after their TV debut.
Among all the setbacks, the Marvel Cinematic Universe eventually managed to get the hang of this new type of media and released critically acclaimed shows like Wonder Man and Daredevil: <a href="https://comicvibe.com/daredevil-born-again-wont-continue-after-season-3/" title="'Daredevil: Born Again' Won't Continue After Season 3″>Born Again season 2. However, the studio may have cracked the recipe for success a little too late, as not only was Wonder Manseason 2 canceled after its initial announcement, but the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen won’t be back for more street-level adventures in his standalone series.
Daredevil: Born Again season 3 will be the show’s last season
If you hear the iconic Matt Murdock scream in the background, it is because the hero’s time on the small screen may have come to an end. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the third season of Daredevil: Born Again will be its last. The Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation at Marvel Studios, Brad Winderbaum, previously stated that the intention was for the show to have indefinite yearly releases, but it seems there was a sudden change in plans.
The report claims that the contract between Marvel and Daredevil: Born Again showrunner Dario Scardapane has come to an end, and the studio didn’t opt to renew it. This could potentially have big implications for the third season of the series, as post-production is still unfolding and it remains unclear who will see it through to completion.
Despite the cancelation of Daredevil: Born Again, Marvel is still looking to expand its Disney+ library. Three to five live-action shows are reportedly in development, and one of them is a spy thriller codenamed Zodiac, which could be a reference to the comic-book criminal organization whose members are named after a sign of the astrological zodiac.
While Marvel has yet to comment on the news, the studio will host a panel at New York Comic-Con titled “Up Next From Marvel Television and Marvel Animation.” Since both Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter are confirmed to attend the convention, it’s likely that Daredevil: Born Again season 3 will be showcased in some capacity. If that’s the case, then perhaps we’ll get an official confirmation as to what the future holds for the Man Without Fear.
On the rumor mill, scooper MyTimeToShineHellorevealed that the creative team behind Daredevil: Born Again learned the show was ending halfway through production, so many important characters will die in the third season. Furthermore, reliable insider Alex Perez hinted that the reason the show won’t continue is that Matt Murdock will join the big screen, although it remains unconfirmed whether that will be in his own standalone project or as a supporting character in another hero’s movie.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 had a 46% drop in views during its first five weeks compared to season 1. Furthermore, the season 2 premiere failed to reach 1 million views, while the opening episode of season 1 had nearly 2 million views. While there isn’t an official reason behind the cancelation yet, it isn’t far-fetched to assume that this decline in views heavily influenced the decision to end the show after the third season.
The future is uncertain for the Man Without Fear, but with a bit of luck, there’s truth to the rumors that the Defenders will join the big screen during the events of Avengers: Secret Wars. If that’s the case, then Daredevil won’t hang up his cowl just yet.
