Mobile operatorNTT Docomo has announced the impending shutdown of English-translated manga platform MANGA MIRAI, which launched in March 2025, “in light of the current business environment.”
Functions like membership signups and new manga purchases, as well as the offering of the app, have been suspended as of August 19, 7PM PT. The end of the platform is set to take place on December 15 at 11:59PM PT.
MANGA MIRAI users won’t lose access to all their titles, as there will be a migration of user info (those who are still under 18 by the time September 30 arrives are exempted) and manga to MangaPlaza, which NTT Docomo’s sister company NTT Solmare established. However, the press release notes that manga that were gotten for free, as well as “some paid titles,” won’t be included with this transfer.
Users will have to sign up for MangaPlaza with their MANGA MIRAI email by September 30, 11:59PM PT to receive this continued access. Alternatively, those who want to opt out of the migration can do so
Co-developed with MyAnimeList, Akatsuki Group, and MEDIA DO, MANGA MIRAI sought to, per the announcement press release, “provide an environment where anime and manga fans can explore the manga that inspired their favorite anime series and discover exciting new stories from the diverse world of Japanese storytelling.” Releases of “original manga and English editions of previously untranslated titles” were part of the plans for the platform, and it was said to have had more than 780 titles at launch.
MANGA MIRAI offered manga from publishers like Kodansha USA, Square Enix, TO Books, and J-Novel Club. At the time of launch, B2B newsletter Animenomics noted that “about 85 percent” came from Kodansha USA and Square Enix’s Manga Up!Some of the titles announced for the platform during its lifetime includeThe Cat and the Dragon, The World’s Least Interesting Master Swordsman, OSHI NO KO, Solo Leveling, and Jujutsu Kaisen.
