Man barred from Oz Comic-Con in Brisbane after alleged bite

In Australia, a man has been banned from attending future Oz Comic-Con events after allegedly biting an artist during a festival in Brisbane. Police were called to the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in the South Bank precinct on Sunday afternoon.

As ABC News Australia reports, a police spokesperson said officers were aware of the incident, but no formal complaint had been made. According to the spokesperson, all parties to the conflict were barred from the exhibition centre and future events.

Dispute near the stalls

Video provided to ABC shows a dispute between stallholder Zyllion Bowie Chong and another vendor, Victoria Manton-Williams, at about 2:40 p.m. Manton-Williams said she asked Chong whether his works had been created using artificial intelligence.

According to her, Chong took a phone from her artist friend who was filming the scene. Manton-Williams claims that her friend then pushed the man, who allegedly bit him on the arm and would not let go. She also said she tried to pull Chong away, but was pushed to the ground and kicked in the arm.

Organisers’ response

According to Manton-Williams, her friend went to hospital and was given antibiotics because of the bite. The incident occurred near stalls for esports games and a Star Trek fan club.

Chong did not respond to ABC’s requests for comment. Oz Comic-Con said it had referred the matter to police and could not provide further comment. A Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre spokesperson said the situation was addressed in line with established safety procedures and that the event was organised independently of the centre.

Oz Comic-Con also did not say what its policy is regarding works or merchandise created using artificial intelligence.
