Naoki Urasawa, the creator behind the award-winning manga series Monster, is one of the most legendary manga creators of all time. Over the decades, he has worked on several exceptional stories, and almost all of his works are praised among fans and critics for their unique art style and storytelling. While Urasawa is famous for Monster, a 1994 manga, which later received an anime adaptation, his best work is still 20th Century Boys, one of the most complex psychological mysteries of all time. Apart from these masterpieces, Urasawa never fails to surprise fans with his genius stories, such as Billy Bat, Pluto, and more.

It was announced in June this year that the creator will return with another exceptional manga, Saigo no Manga Kyōshitsu (Last Manga Classroom). The series began serialization in the September issue of Shogakukan’s Big Comic Original Zoukan on August 12. The official X handle of Big Comic Original Editorial Department also shared the featured color spread of the anime along with a confirmation that the debut includes two chapters.

The premise of the story couldn’t be more perfect for this era where AI is entering creative spaces, which often sparks controversies. The story is set in a world where AI is everything, since technological advancements began an era of convenience. However, even during such an era, the things that remain the most important and priceless are those that were created by humans’ two hands. To realize what humanity has lost over the years, the story will follow the protagonist’s journey to realize the awareness of returning to the past from time to time.

It will be another psychological thriller that raises thought-provoking questions, forcing the readers to debate the cost of having AI do the work meant for humans. The manga will release new chapters on a monthly schedule in the magazine, which won’t be available for global fans. While the first volume should be released next year if there aren’t any delays in serialization, fans in the U.S. will have to wait longer to finally read another exciting work from the creator.

Does Last Manga Classroom Have a Release Date For Fans in The U.S.?

Although Urasawa has a huge fanbase across the globe, his works aren’t easily available for international fans. So far, Last Manga Classroom also doesn’t have an official English title or a release date. Considering the previous track record of Urasawa’s manga translations, fans in the U.S. might have to wait a long time. Even an award-winning series by the creator, Billy Bat, took 18 years to release its first English volume. Abrams ComicArts’ Kana released the first volume on June 2nd, 2026, and it will continue to translate the remaining 19 volumes as well.

Billy Batis yet another exceptional series by the creator, as it centers around Kevin Yamagata, a Japanese-American comic book artist. The story follows his struggles as he gets entangled in a web of murder and cover-ups, which all lead to the image of a bat similar to the one in his comic book.
