- Today’s winner advances to the semifinals, while the loser plays an elimination game Friday, Aug. 7.
Can Lake Mary Little League keep up its early dominance at the 2026 Little League Softball World Series? After getting two days off, the Florida team takes the field again today against the girls from Clayton, North Carolina.
No team in Greenville, North Carolina has scored at the rate that Lake Mary has so far. In two games shortened by the run rule, Florida has won by a combined score of 29-0 in just seven innings (that’s one inning more than a regulation Little League softball game).
Avery Little has yet to be put out, going 6 for 6 with a double, a triple, four runs and three RBIs all by herself. Callie Ousley and Kylie Green, daughter of Florida Gators basketball legend Taurean Green, have paced the team with four RBIs apiece. Ace Chloe Cheek will likely get the start against North Carolina; she racked up seven strikeouts in a four-inning complete game with just two hits and a walk against her in a 14-0 win over Snohomish, Washington.
North Carolina is no slouch, either. They won two games in one day to get here, blowing out Canada 16-4 — tied for the most in an LLSWS game since 2022 — before squeaking past Texas 2-1. Parker Mortensen drove in the winning run with a sixth-inning double in the nightcap, while Sophie Catarozzoli and Anna-Lynn Clark had three RBIs apiece in their opener.
The winner earns a ticket to the semifinal Saturday, Aug. 8, but the loser won’t be out of the tournament. They’ll have an elimination game Friday, Aug. 7 against the same Washington team that fell to Florida on Aug. 2.
